Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton - "Little Wing" - Live at Madison Square Garden 2008

English guitarist and singer Eric Clapton has performed "Little Wing" throughout his career, beginning in 1970 with Derek and the Dominos.

Derek and the Dominos performed the song in London at the Marquee Club ten days after their live debut at the Lyceum on June 14, 1970. With Duane Allman on second guitar, the group recorded "Little Wing" at Criteria Studios in Miami, during the sessions for Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs shortly before Hendrix's death on September 18, 1970.

After the break up of Derek and the Dominos, Clapton continued to perform "Little Wing". Live recordings appear on Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert (1973), Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies (1974, released 1996), Eric Clapton & Friends in Concert (DVD with Sheryl Crow 1999), Live in San Diego (2007, released 2016), Live from Madison Square Garden (with Steve Winwood 2008, released 2009).

Lyrics

Well, she's walking through the clouds

with a circus mind

that's running round.

Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams

and fairy tales,

That's all she ever thinks about ...

Riding with the wind.

When I'm sad, she comes to me

with a thousand smiles.

She gives to me free.

It's alright, she said,

it's alright.

Take anything you want from me,

You can take anything, anything.

Fly on, little wing.
